EELS - Blinking Lights & Other Revelations Deluxe Boxset [NEW ITEM]

Evening all!

Today's new musical arrival is an exciting one The Eels - Blinking Lights and Other Revelations. I have always been a fan of 'Daisies of the Galaxy' but for me, this not only ranks as the Eel's greatest works, but also one of my all time desert island greats.

I of course already own this in more standard formats but recently found a great deal on a pre-owned deluxe box set and today it has arrived, it looks and sounds great!  The set comes with four vinyl discs covering the 33 song album and also, a live set taken from the height of the tour of the album. For those wanting to get into the detail of some of these great songs, the set includes a hardback book
with lyrics and photos from the album.

The album itself covers a lot given its 33 track length, its main roots are from folk and blues but also covers pop and more experimental sounds. The feel ranges from heart warming tales, upbeat anthems, sad and thoughtful pieces .....and a song about the imfamous 'Soy bomb'.  My take on the album is that it covers a series of peoples lives and perspectives rather than an individual. The album brilliantly stems these stories, styles and feels together into one great emotional, vast and epic piece.

Well worth a listen. (pure decadence on the Deluxe Boxset not required!)

The Meeting Place - The Last Shadow Puppets

Today's [Intro]music recommends takes me back to early 2012. It was originally written at least a couple of years before this point by two talented British song writers - Alex Turner of the Arctic Monkeys and Miles Kane of the Little Flames but also with great solo success.

Together they briefly formed 'The Last Shadow Puppets' and made one album, who knows if they'll ever make another?

This is a live take off that album. It manages to maintain a nice upbeat vibe on the surface which easily gives way to a dark, moody undertone with an infectious moreish melancholy core.
